DISCOVERIES, the first exhibition in the new premises of DAM Projects in Berlin Charlottenburg.
Dear friends of DAM,
we are delighted to invite you to DISCOVERIES, the first exhibition in the new premises of DAM Projects in Berlin Charlottenburg. On display will be new discoveries from the early oeuvre of Manfred Mohr and Vera Molnar. Both artists are pioneers of generative art.
The exhibition presents a selection of Mohr’s artworks created between 1971 and 1980. The earliest works among them date from a phase that began in 1969, when Mohr first used algorithms to create his images, thus introducing the logical and automated construction of images into his work. Realized with pen plotters, the resulting drawings are experiments with pictorial surfaces, the partitioning of space and the manifold possibilities of image composition.
The selected works by Vera Molnar are finds from recent visits to the artist’s studio in Paris and depict diverse artistic phases. For Molnar, the computer is an instrument in the painter’s hands. She uses it to combine forms in the hope that the machine will allow her to distance herself from what is learned and culturally inherited.
In addition, Frieder Nake’s homage to Molnar, a specially developed software work, will be exhibited for the first time.
The exhibition will be presented in the main gallery space while the other exhibition spaces are under construction. The completed DAM Projects space will open in January 2022 with an extensive program.
