November 16, 2013 – Januar 25, 2014
Opening: November 15, 2013, 7 – 9 PM
Introduction: Hans-Christian von Herrmann (TU Berlin)
The exhibition in honor of Frieder Nake combines two special anniversaries:
On the one hand it was already in 1963 when Nake started to experiment with a computer and a pen plotter, his first artworks were drawn on a Zuse Graphomat Z64 at the University of Stuttgart. Max Bense, professor of
philosophy and philosophy of science, inspired Frieder Nake and Georg Nees to use a computer to create a new direction of art. This was the foundation of Digital Art.
On the other hand Frieder Nake turns 75 this year. His enthusiasm, his strict position and his commitment to Digital Art is still highly appreciated. Nakes invitation to his friends, who gladly accepted, will show us a
diversified exhibition of generative art from the last 50 years. Many artists, most of them have written history themselves, show their selection of representative works. But the focus of the exhibition will be on the art of Frieder Nake, all from his private collection.
„Doppelt und Einzig. Jenseits der algorithmischen Kunst“
Dialog with Frieder Nake on January 25th 2014 at 3 PM
On the last day of the exhibition “No Message Whatsoever. Frieder Nake & Friends” you have the opportunity to talk with Frieder Nake and reflect about algorithmic art. Illustraded by examples of his artwork he will talk
about the principles of algorithmic art and Frieder Nake is looking forward to any detailed questions or critical objections.
