boredomresearch lassen sich vorwiegend von der Diversität der Natur inspirieren. Mithilfe computergestützter Verfahren erarbeiten sie ähnlich vielfältige Formen. Am Computer simulieren sie natürliche Muster, Verhaltensweisen und komplexe Formenspiele, die sich im Laufe der Zeit verändern. boredomresearch haben sich dabei einer Reihe von Techniken, wie generativer Software, 3-D und Computer-Modellierung bedient, um gänzlich neue Bildelemente und -kompositionen zu entwerfen.

boredomresearch ist der Titel des gemeinsamen Projektes der britischen Künstler Vicky Isley (*1974) und Paul Smith (*1975). Alle ihre Arbeiten sind am Computer erstellt und umfassen interaktive Online-Projekte, sowie generative Objekte und Prints. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in die Sammlung des British Council aufgenommen und erhielten lobende Anerkennung von der transmediale.05, Berlin (2005) und der VIDA 7.0 Art & Artificial Life International Competition, Madrid (2004). Die Arbeiten von boredomresearch wurden bereits weltweit ausgestellt, u.a. im Haus der elektronischen Künste Basel (2012); im KUMU Art Museum in Tallinn, Estland (2011); im Today Art Museum in Beijing (2010); im LABoral Centro de Arte y Creacion Industrial in Gijón, Spanien (2010); auf dem STRP Festival in Eindhoven, Niederlande (2009) und am Instituto Itaú Cultural in São Paulo (2008).
